Settled by William Yeardley in 1682, sitting along the Delaware River, the town quickly grew with the establishment of a rail station.  The general area referred to as Yardley, is comprised of Yardley Borough along the river and Lower Makefield Township.

The borough features a village with shops and restaurants concentrated along Main Street and just steps away from the Delaware Canal and Delaware River.  Adjacent to the borough sits Lower Makefield Township with tree lined streets and wooded parcels.  There are many planned communities throughout the township including condominiums, townhomes and single family units.  The Yardley area is also home to several premier Bucks County adult living communities.
